The Central sector Scheme under Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries on Issuance of Biometric Identity cards to coastal fishermen was launched by this Ministry on 11th December, 2009. A consortium of three Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) led by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) was entrusted the work of digitization of data, card production and issuance of the same. Bally Computer Centre was entrusted upon for the collection of Demographic Data and the Biometric enrollment of the fishermen for the second round in coastal areas. We completed the project well ahead of time in the coastal areas of the state of Odisha in 2013-2014.
